Exploring the Staithes Coast: Hiking Trails and Scenic Walks
Explore the rugged beauty of Staithes through coastal hikes and scenic walks. From fossil-rich shores to breathtaking vistas, nature’s wonders await on these captivating trails.
The Endeavour is nestled in an old, cobbled street in the heart of the picturesque North Yorkshire village of Staithes. Once one of the busiest fishing ports on the North-East Coast, Staithes has stayed true to its heritage and still has a small fleet of traditional cobbles sailing from the harbour.
Situated on the Cleveland Way National Trail, this stretch of coastline offers a rich and varied natural landscape, historic villages and breathtaking views, making it a haven for walkers and wildlife enthusiasts.
Extensively refurbished, the Endeavour offers four individually styled rooms inspired by the history and voyages of HMS Bark Endeavour.
Named after the spiritual home of HMS Bark Endeavour. Whitby is a lovely bright double room located on the first floor with views of the high street and an ensuite bathroom with free standing shower, sink and toilet.
Named after the final resting place of HMS Bark Endeavour.
Rhode Island is situated on the second floor and is a large room which can be configured either as a twin or as a super-king as needed. It also has an en-suite bathroom with a bath and overhead shower.
Off the east coast of Australia, Cook named it Botany Bay, due to the ‘great quantity of plants found in this place’. Botany Bay is situated on the top floor and as such has fabulous views of the harbour. A large double room, decorated in the rich colours of the Australian outback, it also has a large, bright ensuite bathroom incorporating a corner bath with handheld shower.
On June 3rd, 1769, Captain Cook and his crew recorded the transit of Venus from the island of Tahiti.
A second-floor room with views of the high street, Tahiti is decorated in verdant greens with a double bed and ensuite bathroom with bath and overhead shower.
It’s the simple pleasures we love most in Staithes, from long cliff-top walks, rock-pooling and fossil hunting along Yorkshire’s Dinosaur Coast or grabbing a line and bucket for crabbing off the harbour walls and finishing off the day with a fish and chip supper.
Fishing and wildlife watching charters can be arranged from the harbour (Dolphins and Whales can be seen in the summer months if you are lucky) or keep your feet on dry land and learn more about Staithes rich art and historical heritage at the Captain Cook Museum and local art galleries.
The Endeavour also offers a relaxing base from which to explore the plethora of attractions within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and surrounding areas. Saltburn, Runswick Bay, Sandsend and Whitby are all just a short distance/invigorating walk away along the Cleveland Way National Trail or head inland to Goathland (home of Heartbeat and Hogwarts railway station).
There are a couple of great pubs serving food and drink in the village as well as cafes, tea rooms and takeaway artisan pizza, or we are more than happy to provide recommendations for the many fabulous pubs and restaurants in the wider area.
All rooms include a delicious breakfast served in our dining room with fresh juices, fruit and cereals and options including a traditional Full English Breakfast, local Staithes Smoked Salmon and Scrambled Eggs or Staithes Smoked Kippers.
We take pride in sourcing local ingredients and supporting the many artisan food producers in the area. Vegan and vegetarian options are always available.
What originally started out as a weekend bolt hole to escape the 9-5, eight years later we had completely fallen in love with Staithes and knew we wanted to build our forever home here. So, when the opportunity came up for the Endeavour in 2022 we grabbed it with both hands to breathe new life into the existing B&B, to share our passion for locally sourced produce and to create a warm and welcoming space at the heart of this historic village.
We have been truly blown away by the support from the village and all our guests. This isn’t just a business for us, this is deeply personal, and whilst we still have lots to do and big plans for the future, we are delighted to share in this journey with you.
This was the best b & b I have ever stayed in. The breakfast was superb. Cameron and Caroline were excellent hosts. The room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Fresh milk and a bottle water daily. Staithes is a wonderful quaint village, very friendly. There is a community spirit evident as soon as you arrive. Wonderful food at the cod and lobster. We will definitely be back.
